Congrats, Zac Duguay!

On behalf of the Ice Demons, I'd like to say congratulations to Zac Duguay on the birth of his daughter (the first!), and another grandchild for Mitch! Hopefully we'll see her in the net somebody helping the Ice Demons or somebody else defeat Mitch and Zac's Stars. ;-)

Hope the new mom and dad get some rest over this holiday season and enjoy their new bundle of joy!

Demons knock off East division leader; hat-trick for Carder

In another game full of action, the Ice Demons defeated the Eastern division leader "Pugs" this weekend, 5-4.

Greg Carder notched the game winner late in the 3rd, and registered his first MDL hat-trick. Carder roofed a blistering wrist shot underneath the crossbar that made the puck stick in the netting in what was a beautiful play.

Both goalies, Bip and Gola, both played good games, making it an "on the edge of your seat" excitement packed game for all 3 periods.

The Ice Demons had a 4-1 lead in the 3rd period, but ran into penalty trouble, giving the Pugs great opportunities to get back in the game. The Pugs had scored a power play goal, then had another goal generously given to them by the officials (WHO WEREN'T ANYWHERE CLOSE TO BEING IN POSITION). One of the Pugs fired a slapshot that Bip saved, but it got behind him, sitting on the goal line. One ref (positioned at the blue line by our bench), however, said that he saw Bip pull it out of the net. Being the closest defenseman who saw the whole thing, I can honestly say that that puck NEVER fully crossed the line...it sat on the line. BUT, thankfully, that blown call didn't make the difference in the game, nor did the non-call late in the 3rd when Zimmy got pulled down but then BS-call when Zimmy allegedly pulled a Pugs guy down later that shift.

Babs only had 1 penalty, and drew the Pugs player into getting a coincidental, so no harm there. ;-)

Other goal scorers were Freddy (Sanford), and Zimmy.

Scratches were Dave Dierwechter and Mikael Krotil.

Other news: Ice Demons still looking to pick up a player, as Nate Wargo has pulled out on us. :-( "Wanted: decent, skilled, good-sportsmanship player wanted for one of the best teams to play for in the MDL. Apply here asap. We'll gladly rescind Roger Johnson's waiver action and trade him if anyone wants to come over to the good guys team." ;-)

Demons skate to 3-3 tie with Hawks

A back and forth game the entire time, the Ice Demons managed to salvage a tie with the rival Hawks, thanks to a late 3rd period goal by Jeff Blankenhorn.

The Demons only had 9 guys, with scratches being the new Nate, Dancona, Sanford, Carder, and Strouphauer. Dierwechter subbed in and played defense with O'Neill and Babcock, and Daniels went up on offense with Zimmerman and Krotil. Goals were scored by Daniels, Krotil, and Blankenhorn.

The Hawks were a good rival to the Demons. Like other teams, they've picked up some good skaters, and it was a fast paced game. If both play each other in the playoffs, it'd be a great game to see and tough to bet on.

Hopefully we can get all players there next week to take on the 1st place Pugs, who are coming off a loss this week.

Ice Demons end unbeaten streak with 4-2 victory over Stars

The "Black and Red" finally notched another win today over the always relentlessly attacking Stars.

Well, we finally had more than 8 players on the bench, and all of our defensive corps was there (except Doc). It's amazing what you can do when you have all (or at least most) of your players.

The Ice Demons welcomed Mikael (?) into the lineup today, and he certainly was impressive, helping out on at least 2 of the Demons' 4 goals. He'll be a good asset to the existing offensive punch we are developing.

It was a great game to play in, as well as watch because it was close the entire time. The Ice Demons took a 3-1 lead in the 3rd, but it didn't last as Babs got caught being a pylon on the offensive blue line and Dancona fell over the defensive blue line, giving the Stars their 2nd goal to pull within one. The action stayed intense until the final part of the game when Sanford sank an empty netter.

Other highlights from today's game:

  • Bip had no penalties

  • Babs had 4 penalties (only 2 or 3 which were legit, imo!)

  • Carder continued scoring streak

  • Stars new acquisition (name?) looked pretty impressive; will certainly help the Stars

  • Ice Demons hoping to have new "Nate" in the lineup soon to complete our roster

  • Roger Johnson released to waivers, available for 2007-2008 draft
