Ice Demons fall way short - again

The Ice Demons got hit by a serious numbers crunch again in a 9-5 loss to the Phantoms on Saturday night. With only 8 skaters in the lineup and only one of those a defenseman, the Demons were forced to move two forwards back to the unaccustomed position of defenseman and the inexperience clearly showed in the team's surrendering of 9 goals.

Although the Demons did manage to score 5 of their own, the game was never in doubt for the Phantoms as Chris Barry and his teammates took control of the game early with crisp passing and some beautiful scoring plays.

Goal scorers for the Demons in the loss included Greg Carder, notching 2, Jeff Blankenhorn, scoring his first of the year, and Fred Sanford scoring 2 as well. Sanford's final goal with under a minute to play raised the tension level in the building significantly as a slow whistle from the referee prompted Sanford to jab away at a loose puck under the goalie and net his 6th of the year. Several Phantoms, including the goalie, took offense to the play and a slight altercation broke out. Nothing but egos were hurt in the melee and the clock was allowed to expire, ending the game.

The MDL and the Ice Demons are off for the next two weeks due to the Thanksgiving break - a much needed time off for a team now desperate to find wins, and in search of players willing to play on a consistent basis.
